Learning Leaders Career Day

On May 18, 2007, Learning Leaders partnered with P.S./I.S. 327, the Dr. Rose B. English School in Brownsville, Brooklyn, for their annual Career Day: “Passport to the Future: An Excellent Career.” Learning Leaders’ volunteers Susan Dawkins, Samantha Harris, and Alana Brown participated, making presentations to 5th and 6th graders about their careers. Students were able to learn about possible career opportunities as well as the importance of community service as they interact with professionals from an array of occupations.

Samantha Harris, who recently joined Learning Leaders, is an industrial engineer at UPS and serves as a volunteer at Manhattan Comprehensive Night & Day H.S. Alana Brown is a retired water inspector for the Department of Environmental Protection, joined Learning Leaders in 2005 and volunteers in both middle and high

schools. Susan Dawkins, a senior associate at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services, volunteers at the High School of Economics and Finance in Lower Manhattan.

Also participating at the event were LaShaun Ellis, Learning Leaders’ Program Coordinator for the Brownsville school district, and Heather Whyte, Manager for Recruitment and Marketing. They presented at the school’s career exhibition, an informational session where they briefed students, parents and teachers about various resources including those offered by Learning Leaders.
