A Night to Remember: 2010 Spring Gala Recap
On Monday, April 26, Learning Leaders celebrated our 2010 Spring Gala with over 250 friends at the American Museum of Natural History. The Gala honored former trustees Nancy Fessenden, Mary Heller, Julie Patterson and Joan Blum Shayne for their tireless commitment to public education in New York City.
The evening began with a cocktail reception in the scenic North Galleria, followed by a seated dinner in the fabulously decorated Powerhouse Room, filled with colorful paper flowers created by the students of PS 87 in Manhattan.
Event co-chairs, Phyllis Chernin and Caryn Magid, Learning Leaders President Mindy Duitz, and Board Chairman Ellen Needham gave a warm welcome to special guests Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott, New York City Councilwoman Gale Brewer (District 6), and Principal John Barnes (Bronx Early College Academy)—who joined us especially to congratulate our Honorees and Volunteers.
Learning Leaders board member and WCBS anchor Dana Tyler emceed the evening, with an auction including prizes by featured children’s illustrator Paul O. Zelinsky, and other artwork by illustrators in the Learning Leaders Authors Read Aloud program.
Jazz music, performed by the talented Chip White Ensemble, good food and our fantastic guests ensured a memorable evening for all.
