ABOUT THE PROGRAM DIRECTORS

Andrea Roberts

Director of Education Services and Family Literacy, Brooklyn and Staten Island
Andrea’s experience includes Economics Teacher and Chair of Social Science Department, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Castries, St. Lucia (1992 – 2002); and Economics Teacher, Wolmer's High School, Kingston, Jamaica. Andrea holds an M.A. in Early Childhood Education, Touro College; and a B.S. in Social Sciences, University of West Indies.

Marilyn Shimon

Director Of Educational Services, Queens
Marilyn has taught in NYC public schools for over 16 years. Amongst teaching and coordinating music, drama and art programs within New York, she was field leader for High School of Environmental Studies and Nature Conservancy and a leader with the People to People Ambassador Program to Australia; additionally, Marilyn has taught at the Rubin Academy of Music in Israel. She was the translator for the Israeli Government, Ministry of Defense; and participated in sessions held in New York for the peace accord meeting between Egypt and Israel. She has publications written on topics of education.
Marilyn has a B.S. in Music Education, and an M.A. in Elementary Education. She has trained in Teacher’s College Reading and Writing program, and holds an Orff Certification in Music.

Marceline Torres

Director of Educational Services, Bronx
Before joining Learning Leaders, Marceline was a teacher and administrator in the Bronx public schools for over 20 years. She served as the Director of the Welcome Center for Immigrant Families in Fordham and at the New York State Association for Bilingual Education. Marceline has an M.A. in Administration and Supervision, Banks Street; M.A. in Bilingual Education, Hunter College (CUNY); and a B.A. in Sociology and Psychology, Hunter College (CUNY).

Yalitza Vasquez

Director of Educational Services, Manhattan
Yalitza has served as the Senior Director of Strategic Partnership and Director of Program Development at Learning Leaders and as an Educational Specialist at the Lowell, a special education non-profit school. Currently, Yalitza is pursuing a Masters of Arts at Columbia University, Teachers College in Education Leadership. She holds a B.A. in Government and Politics from St. John’s University.
