In addition to Learning Leaders’ tutorial and general volunteer programs serving elementary and middle schools, the following opportunities permit groups of volunteers to provide distinctive enrichment programs to New York City public schools. In most cases, training can be provided in-house.
Book Buddies – Our Most Popular Corporate Program
Volunteers and their elementary or middle school pen pals read the same books and exchange letters about them. Students build their vocabulary, writing skills and social competence by discussing subject matter and reading in general with a concerned adult. At the culmination of the program, volunteers host a Meet & Greet to celebrate with participating students. Learn more about Book Buddies!
Spend one hour reading to an elementary school class up to three times a year. Assist the teacher in engaging the class in interactive activities about the book while also teaching students about your company and the work you perform. This program is available to volunteers and groups.
Teamed volunteers facilitate regular book clubs of elementary or middle schools students about shared reading, including contemporary, multi-cultural stories as well as classic children’s literature. Students learn how to read critically, think independently and express themselves clearly in speaking and writing.
