ArtWorks
ArtWorks introduces third-grade students to the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Volunteers provide preparatory and follow-up classroom activities for each museum trip. The project teaches children how to comprehend and discuss painting, sculpture, architecture and the decorative arts. Volunteers teach two 6-week sessions per school year or lead 6 one-hour tours. Authors Read Aloud
Authors Read Aloud features authors and illustrators of children’s books who volunteer to visit the same classroom four times a year to read from their own books or works-in-progress. The volunteers engage the children (1st to 6th grades) in discussions about the books and the creative writing process and turn young minds on to the excitement of reading and writing.

Literary Leaders
Literary Leaders is an enrichment program for primarily 3rd to 6th grade public school students develops their abilities in reading, thinking, listening and self-expression. Students and volunteers read and discuss contemporary multi-cultural stories as well as the classic Junior Great Books series.

College Planning
Volunteers also assist high school college advisors and college-bound students with the application process, college essays, decision-making, and the financial aid process. Volunteers give a minimum of 2 hours per week. Day and very limited evening options are available. (Training September through January.)
